History of El Salvador
The start of El Salvador's independence made a big mark in their country, and this site will inform you in all that you need to know about El Salvador's history. It all started when El Salvador and the other Central American country's wanted to break free of the King of Spain's holds and wanted to have freedom. In 1823 all of the Central American country's except Panama joined together to make the United Providences of Central America so that they could defeat the King of Spain and have a stronger force. Finally in 1841 they broke free of Spain and had independence.
When El Salvador was finally free they had many presidents but almost all of the presidents were very wealthy coffee planters! In 1931 there was a dictator named General Maximilano Hernandez Martinez who took control of El Salvador for 12 years! He built public schools, expanded social reform services and supported labor reform. Many people supported him but military officer's continued to rule over El Salvador.
In 1992 January, 16th, the government and the FLMN (political party) signed a peace treaty and in 2014 the vice president of the FLMN was elected for president of El Salvador. So, signing a peace treaty got El Salvador their new president. Also the government singed rebel factions in 1992 and in 1996. A lot of things happened for El Salvador in these years!
